Daku is a right-hand reef wave off Daku Island, about 15 minutes by boat from General Luna, Siargao. Its slow pace and soft take-off suit beginners with an instructor as well as intermediate surfers.
A softer take-off
The wave opens with a gentle entry into the right. That is why Daku appears in beginner and intermediate spot guides. It gives a different option from the fast, shallow waves rated for advanced surfers.
The beginner label still needs a condition attached: complete beginners should go with an instructor. A soft take-off does not make every day suitable for a first lesson.
Who it’s for
Daku can suit a first session with a coach or a surfer moving beyond the first stage of learning. The coach needs to match the day’s wave to your ability.
For a walk-in beginner option, compare Jacking Horse. Guiwan is another beginner-to-intermediate listing, though its take-off makes it a poor choice for a very first session.
The boat from General Luna
Boats leave from the market or boardwalk area. Allow roughly 15 minutes each way.
Fat Lips gives an approximate return price of ₱1,500 to ₱1,800 for a whole boat. Other undated sources quote per-person fares, including around ₱200. These figures conflict and are not a current fare list. Agree on the total price before getting in the boat, including whether the quote covers everyone and the return trip.
When to consider Daku
Daku is mainly a swell-season option. Siargao’s main swell period runs from late September through November into early December. March to May can bring another smaller season, though flat spells happen. The day’s forecast still decides the lesson location.
