Jacking Horse is a soft right over reef beside Cloud 9 in General Luna, Siargao. Its inside section suits beginner lessons when conditions fit. Further outside, the wave is more suited to intermediate surfers.
The wave
Fat Lips describes a reef break with the feel of a beach break. The soft breaking wave explains the beginner rating, but the bottom is reef. That distinction matters when choosing a first session.
A sideways current runs across the break at high tide and around the full moon. A small wave does not remove that concern. The coach needs to assess the current before deciding where the lesson happens.
Who it’s for
The inside is an option for first lessons. Progressing to the outside depends on ability and conditions; a certain number of lessons does not automatically make it suitable.
Since July 2025, beginner lessons have been prohibited at nearby Cloud 9. The published rule does not extend to Jacking Horse. Our Cloud 9 beginner guide explains the distinction.
Getting there
Go through the Cloud 9 gate and take the footpath to the left. This is a walk-in spot, so reaching the break does not require a boat.
When it works
Jacking Horse has surf year-round, with very small waves from June to September. The current means the tide still needs checking, even when the wave looks manageable.
For other beginner options, compare Daku and Ocean 9. Their access and seasons differ.
Surfing Sirago
This is the kind of place we take beginners when conditions fit. Our local coaches are Francis, Michael and Glenn. The coach chooses the spot on the day according to your level, the tide and wind.
A two-hour lesson costs ₱1,200 including the board. On good-wave days, a boat-out option adds ₱300; see prices. Book by WhatsApp with Michael, and use the spot overview to compare the choices.
Is Jacking Horse good for beginners?
Yes, when conditions fit. The inside section is used for beginner lessons. It breaks over reef, and a sideways current at high tide and around the full moon needs attention.
