Cloud 9 is a hollow right over shallow reef in General Luna, Siargao. It suits experienced surfers, with Fat Lips rating it Expert/Pro. Since July 2025, beginner lessons have been prohibited here.

The wave

The wave breaks right and forms a hollow section over shallow reef. That bottom is part of the decision to paddle out, even when the swell is small. A summer day with smaller waves does not make Cloud 9 a place for a first lesson.

Who it’s for

Experience catching waves independently matters here. The published announcement welcomes surfers who know surf etiquette and can catch their own waves without putting others in danger. It does not set an expert-only admission rule.

Beginner lessons are prohibited, and shops may not rent boards to beginners without an instructor. Our Cloud 9 beginner guide explains the wording and the uncertainty about who issued it.

For a beginner session, consider Jacking Horse or Daku with a coach. Nearby Quiksilver is another advanced reef wave.

Getting there

Access is on foot from the Cloud 9 tower. Fat Lips describes a walk of roughly 100 metres from the tower to the break. A boat transfer is not needed.

When it works

The peak runs from late September to November. Southwest or west winds can be offshore during the main swell season. From late December to March, northeast monsoon winds blow onshore at Cloud 9, so bigger swell alone does not mean better surf.

March to May can bring a smaller second season across Siargao, with flat spells too. Check the day’s tide and wind before deciding.
