Tuason is a fast left over very shallow reef in the General Luna area of Siargao. It suits intermediate to advanced surfers. You can walk to the beach and paddle out, with no boat trip needed.

The wave

The combination of speed and very shallow water defines Tuason. Going left here calls for experience with a fast wave, and the reef deserves attention even when the surf looks within your ability.

High tide is the recommended window. That recommendation does not remove the shallow-water concern. Before entering, discuss the conditions with someone who knows the break and be ready to choose another spot.

Who it’s for

Tuason’s intermediate-to-advanced rating covers a range of experience. Being comfortable at a softer wave does not automatically make this a suitable next session. Tell the coach what kinds of waves you have already surfed, particularly if fast lefts are new to you.

For another left that requires a boat, compare Stimpy’s. If you are still learning to catch waves, Daku has a slower right with a soft take-off. Complete beginners there need an instructor.

Getting there

Access is from the beach, followed by a paddle. There is no boat fare to budget for this route. For a lesson, confirm the meeting place with the coach once the day’s spot has been chosen.

When it works

Tuason’s peak runs from late September through November, with high tide preferred. Plan around the tide on the day you want to surf, rather than assuming the same morning time will suit every session. The season gives a broad window; it cannot promise a suitable wave for your level.

Is Tuason in Siargao good for beginners?

Tuason is rated intermediate to advanced. Its fast wave and very shallow reef make it a place for experienced surfers; choose a softer spot with a coach for a first lesson.

What tide is best for Tuason?

Fat Lips recommends high tide. The wave is still very shallow, so the tide recommendation needs to be considered alongside the day's conditions and your ability.

Do you need a boat to surf Tuason?

No. Reach the beach on foot and paddle out from shore. There is no boat transfer required.
